I just did a whole house window replacement project as part of a larger remodel, and we used Marvin Windows & Doors. The house is a pretty traditional 1950’s house that had it’s original wood single pane windows. We wanted to use a product that would look similar on the outside, but bring us up to modern standards of efficiency & air tightness. We considered a few brands but chose Marvin’s brand-new product they call “Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung” windows. If you’ve seen my video, you know I’m a Marvin fan already so let’s take a closer look at what’s different about this window.
-This is the coolest new feature they’ve added. When you buy a double hung window both sashes move up/down. Traditionally, they have a “keeper” on the upper sash and a moving lock on the bottom sash. This double system can be frustrating as you must line both up perfectly or the window won’t be locked. In this new window they’ve designed a “Keeper-less” locking mechanism. The traditional looking lock you operate is only on the lower sash and the mechanism is hidden inside the window jamb. Simple push down the lower sash and you’ll hear an audible “click” to know it’s locked. Genius! It’s hard to explain, but trust me it’s fantastic. You really need to see this at a Marvin showroom to understand how cool this new lock mechanism is.
-I also really like how it allows you to “lock” the window in vent mode. I give a brief tutorial on this vent mode at 2:36 in the video. I can see that being really nice for families with young kids or pets. That 4″ opening won’t allow them to get through.
This is where Marvin has made me a believer over the years. This is an excellent window that has fine details. I like their exterior aluminum cladding system, and the air tightness rating of this window is top notch.
Look at the ratings for this window. This is the best you’ll see for a window unless you goto Triple Glaze or other serious measures.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a wood window this new product from Marvin should be top of your list. I’ve been very impressed with these.
