ROXUL’s IBS Booth – Fire and Sound Proof Insulation

We caught up with Mark from MyFixitUpLife at the ROXUL booth at the International Build Show last week. The deadening of sound in this booth with 2 openings on either side was a little unsettling it was so quite. Mark shows us the fire resistant, and water repellant capabilities along with different uses and benefits of this stuff!

I used Roxul for our house, both Comfort Batts (between studs) and the denser 3″ Comfort Boards (for the exterior thermal break) instead of rigid foam. I like it its low carbon footprint and greater U value per inch. I’d use it again.

However, they advertise it as being both water repellent and unattractive to rodents… this is a stretch. The comfort board is water repellent on one side, but if the end gets wet it absorbs water readily and required days in the sun to dry after being squeezed. It is less attractive to rodents than fiber glass, but some stored in a garage made for good nesting material.
