  • Matt,

Glad to see you’re putting the “perfect wall” to the test here in Austin! I’m wondering what type of roofing you plan to install on top of your 6″ of rigid? I’m working on a similar detail and I’ve found some metal roofing companies list 4″ of rigid as the max allowed under the roofing due to concern about wind loads. Have you found a manufacturer that allows for 6″ or will you be using a different type of roofing? Thanks.

    • Nick,
We are using a non-concealed fastener metal roof. Screw-down. Old School. I’m not too worried about a manufacture not warrantying for blow off, our 1×4’s are screwed into the studs/rafters with some serious screws so those 1×4’s are beefy. We won’t have any issues with fasteners holding on those. It’s a tried and true detail.
      Best, Matt

  • Hi,
why you install horizontally plank between the studs of the frame and OSB?

    • That was purely for aesthetics. There is no drywall to hide the framing inside so we wanted to mimic the look of a 1920’s framed Austin house. Back then they used horizontal shiplap pine for shear and this gives a similar look. We plan to whitewash the framing that’s exposed inside the house.

    • Great idea, it will look nice.

My husband and I really want to build a large studio using the perfect wall system, but we are on a tight budget. Any way you could give me an estimate of building with this system costs, not including finishings? Thank you.

Air barrier is used in dust collection systems to improve the internal air quality (IAQ). Very useful info. Hope to see more posts soon!
