Marvin Ultimate Lift & Slide Door – Sweet!

When I remodeled my 1970’s house a few years ago I took out this clunky terrible aluminum sliding glass door that was a junky even when it was first installed 30 years ago.  Well, door technology has come a long way since then.  I was touring a house with Patrick Ousey from FAB Architecture and he introduced me to the “lift & slide” style door.  He had used Lift & Slide style doors in a killer house he designed in West Lake that had an amazing downtown Austin view.  Once you see one of these in action trust me you’ll want one.  An expensive door but like no other sliding door you’ve ever operated.  Marvin just came out with their Ultimate Lift and Slide Door and it’s a thing of beauty.  Flush (read: no tripping) sills, up to 12′ tall and up to 60′ wide openings!  Check out this YouTube video of their new door at the 2010 International Builders Show.  Fast forward to 3:30 in the video to get to the door.  Be sure to notice the flush sill in the video.  Awesome.  I can’t wait to install one of these beauties in one of my houses.  -Matt Risinger
