2015 Blog Year End Review + Social Stats

As 2015 winds down to a close, I want to take a minute to say thanks to all my blog & video followers who regularly consume my content!  It’s been a banner year for my online following including, YouTube, Twitter, & Instagram.    I basically fell into the blogging after seeing David Meerman Scott speak and buying his book titled “The New Rules of Marketing & PR“.  I started this blog in 2007 as a way to market myself and my company.  I’ve grown my following quite a bit, but for some reason this year has really seen things jump in terms of eyes on my content.  At the risk of seeming egotistical, here’s some stats for the year that are interesting (to me at least):

Ok, so these YouTube stats are frankly a bit crazy… almost 7 Million minutes of me talking to people through my videos!  NUTS!  I also have gained 8,619 subscribers to my channel in 2015 and I’ve got over 18,000 subscribers now.  Every time I post a video I get 1000 hits within 2-3 days.  I think a big part of this growth in 2015 has been due to my Pro Video crew.  Watching a video from 2-3 years ago to today is very different from an Audio standpoint, let alone the use of a tripod!  (FYI, the $8k I made from YouTube is from people clicking on the ads embedded in the videos.)

Twitter Followers:

I like using Twitter.  I use to load up (schedule) my tweets for the week, and I’ve got an account to automatically load my Instagram pictures to my Twitter profile as native pictures.  I also get a bit more personal on twitter.  I hear that I need to get up to 5000 followers on Twitter to really be a big cheese so I’m going to work on that in the coming year.

Instagram Followers:

Instagram is a really fun app and I think has the potential to be bigger than Facebook & Twitter.  Almost every project I have under construction has clients who follow me on Instagram.  This seems to be the new place where Architects, Interior Designers, and Craftsmen are most active.  I typically post 2-3 pictures every work day to Instagram. blog readership stats:

My blog seems to really connect well with Google searches and I had over 100,000 new visitors to my blog in 2015!  Who would have thought in 2007 when I started this blog that I’d see this numbers?

What’s Next?

So, if you’ve already watched my video linked above you know that 2016 will see some changes to my Video channel.  I’m bringing on some sponsors to help me keep providing high quality content for free.  These are hand selected brands that I already have liked & have used their products.  Look for that to start in February or March of next year.

What else?  How can I help you?  If you are a regular reader I’d love to get your feedback on my blog or videos.  Would a blog series on Social Media For Builders be helpful for you?  Should I do some blogs/videos on the basics (Insulation, Roofing, Air Sealing, etc)?

Lastly, If you are attending the International Building Show in Las Vegas I’d love to say hi!  I’ll be speaking every day at the High Performance Building Zone from 11:15-12:15.  I’m bringing the full video crew with me too and shooting video with the Journal of Light Construction to bring you what I consider the Best of IBS 2016!  Look for 7-10 videos post on my YouTube channel that week.

Lastly, I’m planning a meet & greet at the Sugatsune Booth over at KBIS Wed afternoon Jan 20th for Happy Hour 4-5PM.  Come grab a beer, see their cool hardware, and talk to me about Hardware, Building, or Blogging.

Happy New Years my friends!  May the Lord bless you and your family in the coming year!
